Summary of Role:

To support the strategic proposals for their department by providing ideas and information and by effectively implementing the plan.

Responsibilities:

Managing the Team:
Takes responsibility for delegating daily tasks to Trainee(s), setting realistic deadlines to ensure the department’s objectives are met and following up to see that the agreed tasks are actioned.
Supports the training of the trainee(s) in their department as required.

Planning the Range:
Knows the targets set for the department and the current performance levels, e.g. sales, best/worst sellers, budgets, markdowns and stock turn.
Contributes to future strategy, range direction and selection meetings by supporting the buyer throughout and by carrying out and presenting an assessment of our competition with recommendations for future action.

Developing the Range:
Contributes constructive ideas to support the development of the range.
Supports the presentation of the range during selection.
Responsible to the buyer for developing and presenting part of the range as agreed by their line manager.

Buying the Range:
Develops and maintains good working relationships with suppliers and effectively negotiates prices, lead times, quality standards, etc., taking into account the critical path and departmental objectives as directed by their Buyer.
Uses their knowledge of required supplier criteria to make recommendations and agree appropriate action with their buyer.
Acts effectively as the first point of contact for daily issues with suppliers.
Uses information from competitor shops, best and worst sellers and supplier visits to input into buying decisions.

Summary of Role:

To maintain and improve through applied technology, the quality and value of the Next Product in line with the Company’s objectives, thereby upholding the Company Mission Statement.
Working with the product team the Product Technologist will provide technical support for the business team ensuring all Next products comply by legal and accepted industry minimums and will implement the company policy on technical standards as set by the Technology Manager.


Responsibilities

Planning the Range
Awareness of market place, through competitor shopping.
Be aware of technical innovations through internal and external contacts
To evaluate new products to ensure they are legal and safe and meet Next performance and legal requirements.
Supplier Appraisal – collate information relating to supplier performance as required by Line Manager.
Support Line Manager in the evaluation of new and existing suppliers, including awareness of Code of Practice issues.Developing the Range • Provide technical support to product team and promote close working relationship.
Work closely with product technologist and buyer to ensure suitability of  product end use.
Prepare for selection meetings as required, contributing on technical issues and supplier suitability.
Refine the prototype sample for function and aesthetics, request the necessary test requirements and provide technical support for the buyer in relation to price negotiations.
Ensure compliance of all products to legal and safety requirements, through risk analysis, and keep up to date with changing legislation.
To approve and, where necessary, formulate product safety information and instructions for new products and sign off packaging and Directory copy of a technical nature.
