Summary of role

To ensure that the designs for their product area are representative of the latest trends whilst reflecting the Next brand in order to meet the expectations of our customers

Responsibilities

Managing the team

Manages effectively their resources and workload in order to achieve efficiently their department’s business plan. This will involve controlling set budgets, prioritising workflow and conducting regular team reviews to ensure deadlines and targets are met

Delegates tasks effectively to ensure the workload is appropriately and fairly distributed amongst the team

Recruits suitable staff and ensures they receive the necessary training to become effective quickly

Motivates their team to ensure they maximise performance levels. This will include regular performance appraisals to set and review objectives along with an assessment of individual performance levels and development needs against the competencies

Monitors and reports on the performance of their team in terms of, e.g. sales, design packs, to their line manager and manages effectively their relationship with other departments which impact directly on their area

Planning the range

To plan and create a vision for their product area and make proposals to their line manager and product teams

Identifies new areas of potential business and puts forward proposals to their line manager and product teams

To use their knowledge of existing and potential suppliers to assist with the evaluation of the supplier base in relation to the production of their product range

Designing the range

Works with technology to assess the most effective method of producing their design prototypes and makes recommenda
